Research Scientist/Scholar III

As a research scientist at the Flint Animal Cancer Center, my unique role allows me to combine my passion for cancer biology and my understanding of big data analysis.

I grew up in West Bengal, India. After completing high school, I studied Zoology Honours as an undergrad at the Asansol Girls’ College affiliated to University of Burdwan, in West Bengal, India. I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Zoology from the same university. An opportunity to further my studies brought me to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. I earned a PhD in Biology in 2014 under the mentorship of Dr. David Durica.

During my graduate and postdoctoral training, my work focused on transcriptomics of regeneration and molting phenomena in non-model organisms. This taught me to analyze complex biological data in a system with limited genomics resources. During my training, I also learned how to leverage supercomputers and programming languages to manage big data.

Working at the Flint Animal Cancer Center has given me the chance to leverage my technical skills and passion for biology to help unlock the mysteries of cancer. Here at the Flint Animal Cancer Center, my work involves utilizing bioinformatics resources to analyze large omics datasets.  My current project involves exploring the mutational landscape of canine thyroid tumors.

I am dedicated to understanding the complex mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression. By applying cutting-edge molecular techniques and advanced computational methods, I aim to uncover insights into the molecular pathways driving tumor growth. I am energized by the fact that we have new tools and computing powers to analyze billions of data points that hold the secrets of cancer. Through collaboration with other experts in the field, I have the opportunity to combine my expertise and resources to accelerate discoveries and improve cancer treatment strategies.
