Canine Glioma
Study Name:
Canine Brain Tumor Vaccine Clinical Trial
Purpose of the study:
- Evaluation of preliminary tumor response to vaccine that targets cancer stem cells as well as vaccine tolerability
Primary Eligibility Criteria:
- Dogs with glioma type tumors based on MRI characteristics
- Patients must still be in overall good health and stable condition
- Not dependent on prednisone to control clinical signs
- Seizures (if occurring) must be controlled with anti-convulsant medication
- Measureable disease present and visible on MRI
- Pets must come to CSU for all visits related to the clinical trial
Study Protocol:
- Pre-enrollment screening: physical/neurological exam, blood tests, MRI of the brain
- Needle biopsy to confirm glioma diagnosis
- Treatment of tumor with stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT)
- Vaccination, physical exam, study blood sampling every other week for 6 treatments then monthly boosters
- Follow up MRI scans at 6th vaccine treatment and then every 3 months
Owner Responsibilities:
- You are responsible for initial screening tests (consultation/physical exam, blood and urine tests, MRI of brain)
- You are expected to make and keep all appointments associated with the study
Financial Incentives:
- Study will pay for all costs associated with the biopsy and SRT at the initial visit
- All study medications will be covered
- The study will pay for every other recheck MRI
- Recheck MRIs that will be owner’s responsibility will be discounted 50%
- Adverse events directly associated with the vaccine will be covered by the study
- In the event of the patient’s death, necropsy and private cremation will be covered by the study
