Becca Makii, MS, DVM
Anatomic Pathology Resident
I was born and raised in Cleveland, OH, before eventually moving to Tulsa, OK, and then Macon, GA.
After high school, I returned to the Buckeye state to study Pharmaceutical Science at The Ohio State University. This is where I was first introduced to the idea of comparative medicine in my courses on drug development.
I loved the field so much that I decided to stay at OSU to pursue a combined MS/DVM. Early into graduate school, I learned about the role that pathologists played in biomedical research, and the rest is history!
I graduated from the DVM program in 2021. After that, I moved to Fort Collins with my dog, Babou, for the combined anatomic pathology residency and PhD program at Colorado State. I am particularly interested in comparative oncology and have joined Dr. Regan’s Investigational Pathology lab.
In the lab, I’ll be focused on using the dog as a comparative model for understanding the tumor microenvironment in osteosarcoma. This is particularly exciting for me since I received my master’s in a lab that focused on comparative osteosarcoma work as well, so I’m excited to continue contributing to understanding this complex disease.
Outside of veterinary medicine, I consider myself an avid rock climber, novice mountain biker, houseplant nerd, punk rock enthusiast, and craft beer aficionado.
