Dr. Alicja Reczynska, D.V.M.

Radiation Oncology Resident

Dr. Alicja ReczynskaI am originally from Poland and moved to the United States with my family at a young age. I was raised in New Jersey, where my love of animals grew. My parents were reluctant to have pets, but I was slowly able to add one furry member at a time to our family.

As a child, I wanted to be a veterinarian, as I loved animals, and I enjoyed science. However, as I learned about human and animal physiology, I debated the idea of pursuing a career in human medicine. My love for animals, the diversity of animal physiology, and the human-animal bond finally won me over.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at the University of Maryland College Park while working in various aspects of the veterinary field: from small and mixed animal practices to wildlife refuges. I was accepted into veterinary school at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Massachusetts. At Tufts, my interest in the idea of “one health” and the study of oncology blossomed. I began to appreciate the bond shared with owners, their pets, and their oncologists as they became part of the team, striving to give the best care to their family members.

I continued my veterinary training in a small animal rotating internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, where I was able to hone my skills as a clinician. I was then accepted as a radiation oncology resident at the Flint Animal Cancer Center the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I fell in love with the teamwork mentality at CSU, where the integration of surgical, medical, and radiation oncology provides unparalleled resources to owners.

When outside of the hospital, I love to spend time with friends and family and be outdoors. Moving to Colorado has provided ample opportunities to hike, backpack, and kayak in the surrounding mountains and lakes. I love to play indoor volleyball, and weather permitting, outdoor as well. I have two cats, Rue and Oliver (Ollie), that crack me up with their crazy antics
