| The Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University has many ongoing clinical trials involving new and exciting research. Clinical trials are research studies that help doctors in the medical and veterinary fields investigate methods to improve detection and treatment of cancer, as well as to better the quality of care each patient receives. Each study tries to answer specific scientific questions and tries to find better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat cancer. In addition, each patient entered into a clinical trial yields valuable information to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. Our Clinical Trials Team is dedicated to providing quality patient care, while gathering important research information. We understand that hearing a diagnosis of cancer in a loved one can be very emotional. We know it can be confusing and difficult to understand some of the medical terminology. For some, even entering a veterinary hospital may seem overwhelming. Starting a complex treatment plan like a clinical trial can sometimes be confusing and bewildering. For these reasons, the Animal Cancer Center has assembled a special Clinical Trials Team to help people understand the language and requirements of clinical research trials. The Clinical Trials Team consists of the Clinical Trials Coordinator, Clinical Trials Intern, and Oncology Resident. The Clinical Trials Team helps identify patients who might qualify to participate in a clinical trial, and helps navigate patients and their families through specific cancer treatment protocols. And most importantly, the Clinical Trials Team provides familiar faces to you as your pet participates in the trial and offers gentle encouragement to the entire family. Our goals are to give you a thorough understanding of our clinical trials, to explain what will happen if you decide to have your pet participate, and to provide compassionate care throughout the treatment period for your beloved pet. Please go to our Clinical Trials link for a list of clinical trials into which we currently are accepting patients.
